NMU skier Martin honored

MARQUETTE – Nordic skier Adam Martin of Northern Michigan University was selected on Thursday to the Academic All-District At-Large Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Martin, who has a double major in computer science and mathematics, Martin has a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average.

In March, the junior earned first team All-American accolades in the 10-kilometer freestyle by finishing in fourth place in 22 minutes, 35.2 seconds and in the 20K classic after he came in fifth in 50:39.7 at the NCAA National Championships.

Martin was runner-up in the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Grand Champion race, compiling 130 points based on his performance at the U.S. Cross Country Championships in January and the U.S. Long Distance Championships in March.

Martin won three events and placed in the top three in four other races during the past season.

He also represented the U.S. at the World Under-23 Championships, where he placed 23rd in the 15K classic in 43:04.2 and 29th in the 15K freestyle in 33:14.9.
