NMU’s Elsner All-Midwest golfer

MARQUETTE – Sophomore Austin Elsner of the Northern Michigan University men’s golf team earned a spot on the NCAA Division II PING All-Midwest Region team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced earlier this week.

Elsner was one of two Wildcats to play in all 10 tournaments this season. The sophomore placed in the top 10 at five of them, averaging a team-best score of 75.95 strokes per round.

Elsner was among five GLIAC golfers to receive all-region accolades, joining Brett Green and John Tidenberg of Tiffin, Jake Troyer of Malone and Jack Weller of Ferris State. Twelve Midwest Region golfers were honored.

Elsner captured his first collegiate victory at the Battle at the Beach, posting a two-round score of 75-71-146. He tied for sixth at the Wildcat Invitational (78-74), tied for seventh at the NCAA Midwest Fall Regional (70-78), tied for 10th at the GLIAC South Invitational (78-74) and tied for third at the Great Lakes Midwest Regional IV (74-71).

In April, Elsner became the first Wildcat since 1998 to earn a spot on the All-GLIAC first team.

Across its eight regions, 112 players earned PING all-region honors this season.
