Ex-Wildcat Sarauer plays in Worlds

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Former Northern Michigan University hockey left wing Andrew Sarauer played for Hungary at the 12-day Ice Hockey World Championship that wrapped on Tuesday.

Sarauer, who played for the Wildcats from 2004-08, recorded three assists in seven games at this International Ice Hockey Federation event. He ranked third on the Hungarian team in points and second in assists.

On Saturday, Hungary topped Belarus 5-2 to earn its first victory in the World Championship’s top pool since 1939. In that game, Sarauer recorded two assists and a plus-3 rating. He logged 21 minutes, 10 seconds of ice time, third most on the team.

Sarauer played 113 games at NMU, registering 31 points on 13 goals and 18 assists. After concluding his collegiate career, he spent three seasons in the AHL and ECHL before moving overseas. He currently is in his third season with Fehervar AV 19 of Szekesfehervar, Austria.
