NMU volleyball opens spring sked

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University volleyball team will open its six-week-long spring season on Monday with its first practice since the fall season concluded.

The Wildcats, who will have four competitions during this period, open at Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday, March 19. Others will be meets held each of the first three Saturdays in April – at Wayne State on April 2, the University of Michigan on April 9 and Wisconsin-Green Bay on April 16.

Northern will play against multiple opponents at each event.

“The players have been working very hard in the weight room and in individual practices in January and February, and they’re looking forward to putting all of their hard work together as a team,” NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. “We’re planning to play one of the hardest spring schedules we have played to date.

“Players are really motivated to play matches against GLIAC and NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) teams as well as teams from the Division I Big Ten, Horizon League and Mid-American Conference. The level of competition will help our team prepare for the 2016 season.”

Last fall, Northern posted a 21-10 overall record to reach the 20-win plateau for the third time in five seasons.
