NMU’s Williams an All-American

NEW ORLEANS – Junior Jasmine Williams of Northern Michigan University earned second team All-American accolades in the weight throw, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.

“It’s very exciting for Jasmine to be honored as an All-American,” NMU head coach Jenny Ryan said. “I’m proud of everything she has accomplished during this indoor season.”

Williams placed 11th in the weight throw at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, posting a distance of 58 feet, 0.50 inches.

The last Wildcats to earn the coaches’ association All-American honors were Cheyenne Stewart in the triple jump and Christina Toogood in the 800-meter run during the 2013-14 season.

Athletes qualified for the first team by finishing in the top eight in their respective events, with second team accolades coming out for the first time this season for those who finish ninth through 12th in individual events and ninth and 10th in relays.

GLIAC members Grand Valley State and Hillsdale joined Lincoln, Missouri, with the most first-teamers with 12 each as Lincoln won the meet with 60 points, Hillsdale was runner-up with 58 and GVSU third with 33.
