NMU swimmers, divers medal at GLIAC meet

WATERFORD – Northern Michigan University individual swimmers and divers along with a relay team took home medals on the first day of the 2016 GLIAC Swimming & Diving Championships in Waterford on Wednesday.

With nine events in the books, both Northern men’s and women’s teams are in third place, totaling 90 and 118 points, respectively.

Molly Kearney earned a bronze medal in the three-meter diving with 434.05 points. Angela Probstfeld also cracked the top five, posting 399.30.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Regan Kilburn, Dana Stroven, Crystal Bennet and Courtney Konopitski claimed third place, touching the wall in 1 minute, 45.21 seconds.

In the 200 individual medley, Savanna Saunders finished in fourth place in 2:06.02, an NCAA B cut.

Rachel Borchardt placed fifth in the 1,000 freestyle, clocking 10:18.28, also an NCAA B cut.

Kilburn placed eighth in the 50 free finals in 24.27 seconds.

On the men’s side, Janne Roovers took home second place in the 1,000 yard free in 9:21.42, an NCAA B cut.

In the 200 IM, freshman Ryan Knox-Leonard placed second, clocking 1:48:58, another NCAA B cut.

Marc Perello also posted an NCAA B cut time en route to a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM with 1:51.64.

The GLIAC championship meet continues today.
