NMU skiers rule trails

CABLE, Wis. – Northern Michigan University Nordic skiers dominated the men’s 15K freestyle at the Telemark Chase Sunday at the Telemark Resort trails in Cable, Wisconsin.

Northern’s Adam Martin earned his second win in as many days, clocking in at 35:51.2 to edge teammate Ian Torchia by .2 of a second.

NMU’s Jake Brown joined Martin and Torchia on the podium after posting a time of 35:54.8.

Fredrik Schwencke (sixth, 36:59.1) and Sam Elfstrom (eighth, 37:33.4) also finished in the top 10. Every Wildcat who raced made the top 20 in a field of 124.

NMU recruit Zak Ketterson, competing for Loppet Nordic Racing, took fifth with a time of 36:53.6.

In the women’s 10K freestyle, Wildcats Felicia Gesior (28:08.7) and Nicole Schneider (28:10.0) cracked the top five, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Caroline Brisbois (sixth, 28:17.4), Sophie Schimpl (seventh, 28:35.1), Vivian Hett (ninth, 28:47.6) and Sarah Bezdicek (10th, 28:47.6), also placed in the top 10.
