NMU skiers going to Worlds

MARQUETTE – A trio of Northern Michigan University cross country skiers will represent the U.S. at the 2016 World Under-23 Ski Championship in Romania.

Adam Martin, Felicia Gesior and Kristen Bourne were selected for the team based on their performances at the U.S. Cross Country Skiing Championships last week hosted by Michigan Tech in Houghton.

Martin and Gesior were the top qualifiers, each recording 200 points. Martin took third in the 15-kilometer classic and fourth in the 30K freestyle, while Bourne consistently finished among the top U-23 skiers in each event she competed in. NMU alumnus Kyle Bratrud also qualified for the event to be held near the Romanian city of Rasnov from Feb. 18-29.

Another half-dozen skiers with ties to NMU will also make the trip to Europe after current Wildcats Ian Torchia, Leo Hipp, Vivian Hett, Sarah Bezdicek and Nicole Schneider, and a recruit, Zak Ketterson, were named to the U.S. World Junior Ski Championship team.
