Hill no longer NMU men’s basketball assistant coach

Northern Michigan University men’s basketball assistant coach William Hill has confirmed that he is longer with the program in an email sent from his NMU email account late this morning.

In his response to a question about his status with the men’s hoops program, he stated “I am no longer with the program and do not wish to comment on the situation. Thank you.”

He was reported to not be on the bench for NMU’s home game against Saginaw Valley State on Thursday night.

Hill was in his third year as a men’s basketball assistant with head coach Bill Sall. Previously, the Negaunee native had been an assistant in the women’s program with head coach Troy Mattson for a year and also spent one season as a men’s assistant with head coach Dean Ellis.

Hill was a top player on the NMU men’s team from 2000-04. He was team’s most valuable player twice, still holding the school’s career 3-pointer record and is one of the program’s all-time leading scorers.

He starred as a player at Negaunee High School and has coached at both Ishpeming and Marquette.

No information was immediately available about the circumstances regarding his departure from his coaching position or whether he resigned or was fired.
