Colla gains program entry
MARQUETTE – Former Northern Michigan University women’s basketball standout Alyssa Colla has earned a spot in the 2016 class of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association “So You Want To Be A Coach” program.
Colla will take part in the program at the WBCA National Convention in Indianapolis from April 1-3.
The program, a collaboration between the WBCA and the NCAA, is meant to help female student-athletes embark on a successful career in coaching and involves a competitive application process.
Colla is currently in her first year as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Dubuque in Iowa.
A four-year starter for the Wildcats, Colla ranks third in program history with 1,567 career points.
As a senior last season, Colla was named to the All-GLIAC first team and the Daktronics All-Midwest Region first team after averaging 18.2 points per game – NMU’s 11th-best single-season mark.
She also earned All-GLIAC first team recognition in 2014, All-GLIAC second team accolades in 2013 and Daktronics All-Midwest Region second team honors in 2014.
