WCHA salutes NMU’s Shine

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University junior forward Dominik Shine was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Shine gave the Wildcats’ hockey team the lead with each of his hat trick-worth of goals in NMU’s 4-3 victory on Friday at Alabama-Huntsville.

That included his final one, a penalty shot in a shorthanded situation that went in the net with 17 seconds remaining in regulation that broke a 3-3 tie.

The shot was called after he picked off a UAH pass and raced to the other end of the rink before he was tripped up.

The downstate Pinckney resident scored earlier at 8:17 and 15:21 of the first period.

He had four shots on goal during Saturday’s 1-1 overtime tie.

NMU will host Ferris Syate Friday and Saturdayat the Berry Events Center.
