NMU women can’t stop host Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – Haley Kershner and Emily Schramek combined for 25 points Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team from losing to host Findlay (Ohio), 60-42.

Kershner scored 13 points and Schramek 12 – both career highs – off the bench for head coach Troy Mattson’s Wildcats (2-6, 1-3 GLIAC).

NMU led, 8-7 at the five-minute mark when Schramek found the basket from beyond the arc, but the Oilers responded with an 8-1 run to take a 17-9 lead.

By the end of the first half, Findlay led the Wildcats, 31-17.

Findlay continued to extend its lead in the third quarter, building a 46-25 advantage by the 2:59 mark of the stanza.

NMU fought back to cut the advantage by closing the quarter on a 7-2 run, highlighted by another Schramek 3-pointer.

But the Oilers held the Wildcats to 10 points in the final quarter, while posting 12 of their own, to make it a 60-42 final.

Taylor Hodell paced Northern with five rebounds.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend when they compete at the Bellarmine Tournament in Louisville, Ky.
