NMU men fall at Wayne State

DETROIT – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped Thursday when Wayne State defeated the Wildcats 58-52. Terry Nash led NMU with 11 points.

During a tight first half, Northern (2-4, 1-2 GLIAC) went on a 10-point run topped off by a Nash layup. He weaved his way between the defense of the Warriors (1-5, 1-2 GLIAC) to drop in a bucket, giving the Wildcats a 26-25 lead going into the break.

NMU held a 36-31 advantage with 14:58 left in the second half, but the teams were tied again at 45-45 with less than eight minutes to go. As the half rolled on, WSU built up a 56-48 lead with 1:59 left. The Wildcats pulled within four of the Warriors on jumpers by Marcus Hall and Naba Echols, but couldn’t get closer.

The Wildcats play at 3 p.m. today at Findlay.
