NMU football to host No. 3 Ferris State

MARQUETTE – Coach Chris Ostrowsky’s Northern Michigan University football team has a chance to clinch a winning season record this weekend.

To do that, however, the Wildcats will have to beat No. 3-ranked Ferris State University (8-0) in a GLIAC contest at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Superior Dome.

It will be Senior Day, as NMU (5-4) will honor Wildcat gridders Brandon Auguste, Terrance Dye, Trey Hipke, Dante Holmes, JT Jurasin, Laquan Middleton, Levi Perry, Jorge Rios, Kyle Steuck, Marcus Tucker, Zane Weaver, Drew Wudtke and Austin Young of Escanaba.

NMU will also be hosting its annual Veterans Day celebration.

Ferris State has won the last four meetings between the two teams and leads the all-time series 20-14-6.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 70-19 win over Lake Erie; the Wildcats beat Walsh 35-17 last weekend.

FSU is led offensively by quarterback Jason Vander Laan, who’s first in the GLIAC with 14 rushing TDs and second in yards rushing per game (132.4).

NMU will counter with QB Shaye Brown, who has scored at least three TDs in five straight games.

He has 23 scores on the season, breaking Matt Hord’s single-season record set in 1996.

Brown is third in the GLIAC in passing yards per game (288.3) and fourth in TD passes.

He needs 356 yards passing to break Kyle Swenor’s single-season mark set in 2003.

NMU will close out its season at noon Saturday, Nov. 14, at Findlay (Ohio).
