Wildcats runners ranked No. 8
MARQUETTE – A pair of recent wins have enabled the Northern Michigan University women’s cross country team to move into its highest national poll ranking since 2005.
The Wildcats are ranked No. 8 in the NCAA Division II women’s cross country national coaches’ poll, released Wednesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
In 2005, the NMU squad held down the No. 3 spot in the season’s eighth week. That team ultimately finished 16th at the Division II national finals.
Northern posted victories at the U.P. Championships on Sept. 5 and at the Chris Yanni Memorial Invitational on Saturday.
Wildcat runners Kameron Burmeister of Menominee and Sarah Goble captured individual titles, while they also earned all-GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors.
The Wildcats return to action Friday morning at the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational.
