NMU’s Burmeister lauded

MARQUETTE – Kameron Burmeister of Northern Michigan University has been named the GLIAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week for her performance during the opening weekend of competition, the league office announced Tuesday.

“This a great honor for Kameron to be recognized right at the start of the season,” NMU head coach Jenny Ryan said. “I’m very proud of her and all of the hard work she put in over the off-season.”

The sophomore from Menominee took home an individual title at the Upper Peninsula Championships, clocking in at 14 minutes, 22.8 seconds in the four-kilometer event held in Marquette to pace a Wildcat team that placed seven runners in the top 10.

NMU’s top returnee, Burmeister earned both all-GLIAC and all-Midwest Region honors in 2014.

She was the first Wildcat to cross the line at both the GLIAC (10th, 21:11.3) and NCAA Midwest Region (16th, 21:31) championships last year.

Burmeister and the Wildcats return to action Saturday when they compete at the Chris Yanni Memorial Invitational hosted by Lake Superior State.
