NMU runs volleyball mark to 8-1

BEMIDJI, Minnesota – Northern Michigan University improved it volleyball record to 8-1 as it readies for its first GLIAC match later this week.

The Wildcats won at Bemidji State in four sets, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-21.

“This was a full team win,” NMU head coach Dominic Yoder said. “We had contributions from many players.”

Madison Whitehead built on her strong performance over the weekend at the Peacock Open in Fayette, Iowa. On Monday, she posted 12 kills, a .346 hitting percentage and three block assists. Teammates Lisa Studnicka added 12 kills and Kayla Chosa 11, while Alex Berger posted a game-high 22 digs.

For the fifth straight match, Jami Hogeboom posted a match-high in assists, this time totaling 35.

Northern Michigan held Bemidji State to an .094 hitting percentage and posted 17 total blocks. Five Wildcats recorded service aces.

The Wildcats open conference play at 7 p.m. Friday when they host Northwood, then have another GLIAC match against Lake Superior at 2 p.m. Saturday.
