Wirtz, Burmeister 3rd at Big Meet

ALLENDALE – The Northern Michigan University women’s track and field team picked up a pair of third-place finishes as the highlight of the second and final day at Grand Valley State’s indoor Big Meet on Saturday.

Senior Brittni Wirtz finished third in the 60-yard dash, clocking 7.75 seconds, while Wildcat freshman Kameron Burmeister was third in the three-kilometer run in 10 minutes, 11.78 seconds. Senior teammate Larissa Halonen was sixth in the latter event in 10:15.47.

NMU junior Avadon James finished ninth in the 200 in 25.75 seconds at this non-team scoring meet.

“This was our best meet of the year,” NMU head coach Jenny Ryan said. “The team was ready to compete and had many personal and season bests.”

The Wildcats return to action at the Titan Challenge in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Saturday.
