Past, present OTS athletes shine
MARQUETTE – Current and former Northern Michigan University Olympic Training Site Greco-Roman wrestlers participated on Thursday in the Dave Schultz Memorial International.
The event was held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Current NMU-OTS athlete Kendrick Sanders, who won this event in 2012 and 2014, competed in the 71-kilogram/156-pound class. He lost by injury default to Michael Hooker of the U.S. Army team in the final match after medical personnel determined Sanders was unable to continue.
Former NMU-OTS wrestler and 2012 Olympian Ben Provisor was one of three Americans to capture a Greco-Roman title.
Provisor placed first after he won by a decision over Josef Rau of the Minnesota Storm in the 80 kg/176 lb. class.
NMU-OTS has now had a current or former athlete earn a title in this event three of the past four years.
Two other NMU-OTS alumni competed in this event: Andrew Bisek of the Minnesota Storm placed third in the 75 kg/165 lb. class after winning by decision over Geordan Speiller of the Florida Jets.
In addition, 2014 NMU graduate Toby Erickson of the New York Athletic Club/OTC placed in fourth in the 130 kg class after losing by decision to Jarod Trice.
