Women triumph; men suffer 2OT loss

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University women’s basketball team emerged from the holiday break with a 83-70 win over Tiffin in GLIAC action Friday.

NMU (5-4, 3-2 GLIAC) placed three scorers in double digits. Senior Alyssa Colla scored 26 points, while Lauren Gruber and Courtney Lemon both chipped in 18.

The Wildcats got two free throws from Colla to take a one-point lead (38-37) at the half.

In the second half, Gruber scored two straight layups and Lemon added a 3-pointer to put NMU up 60-57. The Wildcats didn’t trail for the rest of the game.

Tiffin (2-9, 1-4) was led by Jordan Fraley, who had 22 points.

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Northern Michigan University men’s basketball team put up a good fight Friday, but fell in double overtime to host Tiffin, 85-81.

Alex Sorenson led the Wildcats with 17 points. Marcus Hall and Terry Nash finished with 16 and 10 points respectively.

NMU (5-6, 3-2 GLIAC) started off well in building a 14-point lead midway through the first half thanks to a 3-pointer by Jordan Perez.

In the second half, NMU build another double-digit lead, going up by as many as 15 points. However, Tiffin whittled the Wildcats’ lead and the game went into overtime tied 64-64.

In the first OT, NMU’s Ethan Blackwell hit a trey with 19 seconds left to send the game into another extra session.

There, Tiffin took control of the game and the Dragons hit their free throws down the stretch to get the win.
