MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University senior guard Lauren Gruber has been named women’s basketball Player of the Week in the GLIAC North Division after the Wildcats defeated Saginaw Valley State 62-46 and Hillsdale 57-54 on the road last week.

Gruber opened the trip on Thursday with a double-double against the Cardinals, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She followed that up with a game-high 24 points in the win on Saturday over Hillsdale where she shot 11 of 13 (.846) from the free-throw line.

Gruber finished the weekend averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 11 of 22 (.500) from the field and 15 of 17 (.882) from the free throw line.

She is the second NMU women’s basketball player named a Player of the Week this season. Fellow senior guard Alyssa Colla earned the mention on Jan. 5.

The Wildcats host a pair of GLIAC games this week at the Berry Events Center.

They take on Lake Superior State at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Northwood at 11 a.m. Saturday.
