Huskies basketball sweeps Findlay

HOUGHTON – Both the men’s and women’s teams at Michigan Tech University were winners at home on Thursday.

The men defeated Findlay 70-59 in their home opener while the women also triumphed over the Oilers, 75-60.

Ben Stelzer led the men’s team with 24 points. The Huskies used a 13-0 late first-half run to take the a 39-28 lead at the break, and then were able to remain ahead throughout the second half.

The women were led by Brenna Heise, who scored a career-high 22 points. Tech struggled in the first half, trailing by as much as 14 points at one point. However, the Huskies were able to click in the second half as Tech took a one-point lead with 14 minutes left and didn’t trail the rest of the game. The Huskies also held Findlay to only 19 points in the second half.

Both teams take on Wayne State Saturday with the women at 1 p.m. and the men at 3 p.m.

Findlay comes to Marquette to play Northern Michigan University on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the women and 3 p.m. for the men, while Wayne State visits the Wildcats Monday for games at 3 p.m. for the women and 5 p.m. for the men.
