Big Bay Relay alerts County Road 550 drivers for Saturday morning, afternoon

MARQUETTE — Safety is of the utmost concern to organizers of the 44th annual Big Bay Relay to be held on Marquette County Road 550 between Marquette and Big Bay on Saturday morning and early afternoon.

Organizers from the Noquemanon Trail Network and Big Bay Pathway ask drivers of vehicles along CR 550 to be on the watch-out along both sides of the road for runners and crew cars along the entire length from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The race starts at 8 a.m. at the Kaufman Sports Complex in north Marquette, heading northwest to Draver Park in Big Bay. Signs signifying that the race is in progress will be posted in Marquette and Big Bay.

Draver Park will also host food from Bearded Lady Creations and music by Los Bromanceros.

More than 40 teams are scheduled to take part, including a pair of senior teams that will walk the course beginning at 6:30 a.m. All runners will be wearing a reflective strap and running on the left-hand side of the road.

Funds raised through this event go toward the Big Bay Pathway. Sponsors include Travel Marquette, Eagle Mine, Floline Media, Bearded Lady Creations and Queen City Running Co.
