MARQUETTE — With the races covering the “big three” cities in Marquette County — Marquette, Ishpeming and Negaunee — a number of local racers had high finishes in the various races that made up the Ore to Shore Mountain Bike Epic on Saturday.

The one winner that came from the county was actually a double winner — that was Junior Rock racer Chase Dehlin of Marquette, who as a 10-11 year-old participant won his boys title, but was also part of the winning team in the Jimmy Johns Fastest Family category.

Also on his team was Daniel Dehlin in the 28-mile-long Soft Rock, who was third in that race, and Ethan Dehlin, another Junior Rock rider in the 10-11 year-old division, who was sixth.

Among adult individual racers, a pair of area riders were runners-up in their respective men’s races — in the Soft Rock, Colin VanderSchaaf of Marquette was second, not quite a minute ahead of Dehlin, while in the 10-mile Shore Rock, Ivan Neumann, an 11-12-year-old racer, was second among males of all ages.

Back in the 4-mile-long Junior Rock, Lyla Isaacson of Marquette in the 10-11 age group was third overall among girls, while Elaine Neumann of Marquette in the 8-9 group was fourth.

Here are top-50 finishers for each gender from the area in the four races listed with results online at Superior Timing website, www.superiortiming.com:

Hard Rock — From the results, it was obvious that the 48-mile Hard Rock is the most competitive division, with top finishers coming from many areas. A quick look at the top 10 showed not only racers from downstate Clarkston and Milford, but Madison, Lake Mills and Sussex, Wisconsin, and even Prescott, Arizona, and Fort Myers, Florida.

The top area men’s finisher was Mark Kransz of Marquette, who was listed as the top single-speed racer, rather than with an age division, as he finished 36th among all men in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 22.5 seconds, an average of 17.6 mph.

Right behind him — less than two seconds, actually — was another Marquette racer, Matthew Millin, listed in the 35-39 category and 37th overall among men in 2:43:24.3.

Also breaking into the top 50 was Dan Jansen of Marquette in 45-49 and 49th overall in 2:47:11.3.

For women, Elizabeth Sabin of Marquette was the fastest area rider. In the 25-29 age group, she was 15th among all women in 3:17:46.4, a 14.5-mph pace.

Next from the area was Emma Stahl of Marquette, in the 20-24 group and 29th in 3:47:27.3, then Jennifer Ryan of Marquette in the 55-59 group and 34th in 3:59:05.2, and Erin Pirkola of Marquette in the 40-44 group and 35th in 4:05:45.6.

Also in the top 50 was Lindsay Bean-Larson of Marquette, 40-44, placing 40th in 4:15:33.9; May Tsupros of Ishpeming, 35-39, in 41st place but in the same time as Bean-Larson; Maya Gougeon of Marquette, 25-29, 43rd in 4:17:59.8; and Katherine Rose of Marquette, 60-64, 45th in 4:19:10.0.
