Scott Prunick of the Marquette Golf Club chasing Gladstone’s Matt Argall for Upper Peninsula Golf Association championship

MENOMINEE — Four golfers representing Marquette County courses were among the dozen in the championship flight that were to play their fourth and final rounds Sunday at the Upper Peninsula Golf Association Championship tournament.

Held at Riverside Golf Club in Menominee, Scott Prunick of the Marquette Golf Club entered the day in second place with 219, three shots behind the 216 posted by leader Matt Argall of Terrace Bluff of Gladstone, who also won this tournament in 2015.

Argall spent his early years living in the Ishpeming area.

Three more golfers from Wawonowin Country Club of Champion were also among the top 12. Nash Soli was ninth with 225, Carter Mason 10th with 226 and past UPGA champion Mark Clements 12th with 230.

While Argall posted rounds of 73 on Thursday, 69 on Friday and 74 Saturday, Prunick was the first-round leader by two strokes after posting 69 on Thursday. He added 76 Friday and 74 Saturday to stay one stroke ahead of third-place Steve Schmidt of Riverside (220) and two strokes ahead of fourth-place John Kositzky Jr. of Terrace Bluff (221).

In addition, this summer’s U.P. Senior Men’s Golf champion, Tim Kramer of Riverside, was among a three-way tie for fifth at 223 with Brian Robinette of Escanaba and Joe Quinn of Gladstone.

Filling out the dozen golfers in the championship flight were Kyle Pouliot of Terrace Bluff, eighth with 224, and Evan Kramer, Tim Kramer’s son, of Riverside, 11th with 228.

Soli posted rounds of 74, 72 and 79; Mason had 71, 78 and 77; and Clements shot 78, 74 and 78.

This has been one of the few years when no one in the first or second flight got hot in the third round and bypassed someone in the championship flight, though it could still happen by the end of the tourney.

Among other top scorers were Chris Rhoades of Marquette, whose 73-86-75–234 was three strokes behind first flight leaders Jeff McCall of Terrace Bluff and Scott Lauerman of Riverside.

Steve Kaiser of Indian Lake near Manisitque was also in the first flight with 80-78-80–238, while Stephen Swentik of Wawonowin was in the second flight with 78-88-82–249, a dozen strokes behind his flight leader.

Rick Rhoades of Marquette led the third flight after three days by shooting the low round of the tourney on Saturday with 68. His 85-85-68–238 gave him a two-stroke edge on Nate Rosseau of Gladstone, who nearly matched Rick Rhoades stroke for stroke with 85-85-70–240.

Also in the third flight, Scott Koski of Marquette was fourth with 86-86-77–249, while Bruce Crookham of Wawonowin was tied for sixth with 84-85-85–254.

In addition, Jordan Mason of Wawonowin led the fifth flight by 10 strokes with 91-97-80–268.
