Trish McGuire, Brooke Mannor hit 3s for victories by Bay women’s basketball team

ESCANABA — A pair of freshmen from Gwinn each hit three 3-pointers during a Bay College women’s basketball victories over the weekend during the Norse’s Quality Inn & Suites Holiday Classic.

Trish McGuire went 3 for 3 from beyond the arc in Bay’s 82-65 victory over Milwaukee Area Technical College on Sunday, a day after Brooke Mannor was 3 for 4 on triples in the Norse’s 56-5 lopsided win over Harper College.

McGuire scored all nine of her Sunday points on the long-range shots, the only shots she attempted all game. She added three assists, two steals and a rebound.

Munising sophomore Kelsea Ackerman added seven points that included a 3-pointer to go with a rebound and assist, while Mannor had three points on a trey along with an assist.

In that game, Bay (9-3) jumped out to a 26-17 lead after one quarter, though the visitors cut it to 42-38 by halftime before the Norse re-established a 63-54 edge at the end of the third quarter.

On Saturday, Mannor scored nine points, all on 3’s, with two assists and a rebound. Ackerman had five points and a rebound, while McGuire added three points, two rebound, an assist and a steal. Mannor and McGuire each hit a triple, too.

The Norse made 17 steals, which led to 31 Harper turnovers. The visitors from Palatine, Illinois, attempted just 11 shots from the field, making two, and was 1 of 5 on free throws.

Bay led 23-0 after one quarter and 35-2 at halftime.

The Norse have a pair of games this weekend at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Classic in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, facing Western Technical College at 2 p.m. Saturday and the host Rams at 5 p.m. Sunday.
