Blues open Zone Tournament with win

ESCANABA — The Marquette Blues Legion baseball team opened up the Upper Peninsula Zone Tournament Thursday with a win as it defeated Escanaba 4-0.

Brendan Kaski picked up the win for the Blues on the mound and Marquette manager Derek Swajanen praised his pitcher’s performance.

“Kaski threw a solid game and the boys played solid defense,” Swajanen said. “He did a good job pitching to contact. We stranded some baserunners and had a lot of chances to put the game away at 6-0, 7-0 or 8-0, but we did a nice job in our first game.

The Blues play two games today in the tournament starting with a contest against Copper Country at 11:30 a.m. and then a game against Iron Mountain at 5:30 p.m.
