Broncos sweep Superior Central on Thursday

EBEN — The elements and Superior Central furnished stiff competiton Thursday, but the Bark River-Harris Broncos prevailed with 6-0 and 6-5 victories in a baseball doubleheader.

BR-H scored the game winner in the nightcap on Adam Cappaert’s single along the third-base line in the fifth inning.

“That was a tough play for their third-baseman,” BR-H had coach Al Botwright said. “It was a pretty tight game. They’re a good team. They hit the ball pretty good.

“We put the ball in play and they made quite a few nice plays in the infield.”

Cappaert, Kaden Mustafa, Ryan Arndt, Logan Heim and Cole Ray had two hits apiece. Arndt scored a run and drove in three. Ray had an RBI and Heim and Cappaert scored a run each.

Mason Korhonen took the win in relief of Jack Bower, who pitched the first inning and allowed two runs on three hits. Korhonen fanned two, walked two and gave up three runs on three hits.

BR-H’s Matt Richer whffed five, walked none and scatter five hits through 4 2/3 innings in the opener. Bower than allowed a hit in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

“Matt had real good control and worked out of jams in the second and fourth,” said Botwright. ” It was 40 degrees when we got there with a steady north wind of 15-20 mph. Those were tough conditions for all pitchers and runs were hard to come by.”

Heim had three hits and three RBIs. Nick Javurek added two hits and two RBIs. Sam Hall also had two hits.

“We got a lot of production out of our No. 9 hitter (Javurek),” said Botwright. “He set the table for the top of our order.”
