LANSING — Golf coaches Dan Ellis of East Lansing and Jimmy Dewling of Bloomfield Hills worked their strengths to perfection in winning the fourth Golf Association of Michigan Four-Ball Championship at the Country Club of Lansing on Wednesday.

The former teammates at Michigan State University are both known as long hitters.

So they bombed it in this tournament.

“We looked forward to this tournament, but you are not coming in expecting to shoot something like that,” Ellis said after the duo combined for a 10-under 61, five better than the runner-up score of 66 turned in by three duos.

Ellis was a star golfer at Negaunee High School along with his twin brother Dave. They are also the sons of former Northern Michigan University golf and men’s basketball coach Dean Ellis.

Ellis, an assistant men’s golf coach at Michigan State, and Dewling combined for eight birdies and an eagle.
