906 Fastpitch to hold tryouts

ESCANABA — Tryouts for next season’s 906 Fastpitch girls softball team will be conducted on Sunday, Aug. 26, at Lemerand Park in Escanaba.

Players from all parts of the Upper Peninsula are invited to try out with an overall goal of the program to develop players’ skills and give them a chance to employ them at the next level.

The program has two divisions of teams, 14-under and 16-under. All players must be 13 years old by Jan. 1.

The 14U tryouts will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. with registration at 2:45 p.m., while 16U is from 6 to 8 p.m. with registration at 5:45 p.m.

DR Derby team to face Kingsford

MARQUETTE — The Dead River Derby’s Superior Sirens roller derby team will host a bout against the Kingsford Krush on Saturday at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

The Krush has recently re-formed its team and will be its first matchup against Dead River Derby since then.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with the bout to begin at 6 p.m. It’s a family-friendly event with food and beverages available, a bounce house for kids and ages 12 and under are admitted for free.

Tickets are $10 at the door for those 13 years and older, with a portion of the proceeds going to UPAWS domestic animal shelter.
