Michigan-Wisconsin tennis tournament set for Escanaba, Gladstone

ESCANABA — The 70th annual Michigan-Wisconsin Tennis Open is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 5-6 in Escanaba.

There will be 10 singles divisions spanning youth through adults and 12 divisions for doubles based upon age and skill level. Singles play will be Saturday and doubles Sunday.

Tournament director Denny Lueneberg said while the event does not attract as many participants as it once did there are still close to 100 entries from around the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin.

“We have a good group that comes down from Marquette,” Lueneberg said.

The event, a fundraiser for Escanaba tennis, will be based out of Ludington Park courts in Escanaba, with other venues to include Escanaba High School, Royce Park, Veterans Park and Gladstone’s Pfotenhauer Park.

Cost is $18 for singles and $22 per doubles team and includes a T-shirt. Entry deadline is Friday.

Entry forms are available online at www.escanaba.org and clicking on the Adult Recreation Programs link.

For more information, call Lueneberg at 786-2207, or call the Escanaba Civic Center at 786-4141 or email recreation@escanaba.org.
