Cycling in the Red Earth

5th annual event draws scores of cyclists, runners and walkers to western Marquette County

The fifth annual Red Earth Classic took place Saturday with start and finish lines at Jackson Park in Negaunee. The event consisted of eight races, four on mountain bikes and four on foot, consisting of circuits on wooded trails ranging from one mile running for children to the 32-mile Beast on bikes for all ages. These are photos taken from near the Jackson Park start-finish line in the morning. In the photo at right, Evandro Maicon Ficanha of Houghton, right, bicycles in the Beast just ahead of Donna Ford of Houghton, who was taking part in the 20-mile Loader.
