Marquette girls soccer beats Iron Mountain in 2 OT Tuesday

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Marquette girls soccer team pulled off an 2-1 double overtime victory over Iron Mountain Tuesday night.

Sierra Carlson got the Redettes on the board early in the first half. Sara Iwanicki started off the rush by centering a pass to Aurora Mlsna, who got the ball through the Mountaineers defense and fed it over to Carlson. Carlson then fired a hard shot into the net to put Marquette up 1-0.

Iron Mountain answered back soon after that on a cross and the two teams remained deadlocked until the second extra session. That was when Deni Peterson rushed upfield and shot the ball at the Mountaineers goalkeeper. She was unable to corral the attempt and it rolled toward the goal line where Carlson tapped it tin.

The Redettes play at Marinette (Wis.) at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
