Jake Phillips leads 4 Marquette skaters in conference honors

MARQUETTE – Led by senior forward Jake Phillips, four Marquette Senior High School Redmen earned Great Lakes Hockey Conference honors, the league announced on Friday.

Phillips was one of six skaters named to the league’s First Team as he was joined by two Hancock, two Escanaba and one Houghton player.

Phillips’ teammate, sophomore defenseman Justin Moyle, made the league’s Second Team, while sophomore forward Joey Phillips and senior forward Donny Schultz made the honorable mention list.

Calumet senior forward Robbie Erkkila was named the GLHC Player of the Year, while 12th-year coach Dan Rouleau of Hancock was named Coach of the Year.

Here are the rest of the league honorees, with year, position and school:

First Team – Reid Pietila, sr. forward, Houghton; Teddy Randell, soph. forward, Hancock; Dylan Paavola, sr. defenseman, Hancock; Calvin Pinar, sr. defensemen, Escanaba; Jack Valentine, sr. goaltender, Escanaba.

Second Team – Rory Anderson, jr. forward, Calumet; Chris Lemire, jr. forward, Escanaba; Alex Nordstrom, fr. forward, Hancock; Chad Dunstan, sr. defenseman, Houghton; Dawson Kero, soph. goaltender, Hancock.

Honorable mention – Nick Aird, sr. forward, Escanaba; Jacob Stoner, sr. forward, Kingsford; Jack Fenton, sr. defenseman, Hancock; Trevor Johnson, jr. defenseman, Calumet; Alek Shanks, jr. defenseman, Kingsford; Ian Carroll, sr. goaltender, Calumet.
