Royales hold vets’ home benefit

MARQUETTE – The Marquette Royales Junior-level hockey team is holding a benefit for the Dominic Jacobetti Veterans’ Home with all proceeds from one of its weekend games.

The Royales play the Traverse City Hounds at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Arena, and the benefit game will be the Saturday contest.

A requested $6 donation, the usual price of admission, gets a buyer a button good to get into the game. It mentions the game itself and its charitable cause as a souvenir.

The Traverse City team is in second place in the Royales’ division of the U.S. Premier Hockey League, and while the Royales are only 6-18, the team is 4-7 over its last 11 contests with seven of those games finishing in overtime or a shootout.

The buttons have been on sale for several months and still available from event sponsors that include For Motors of Marquette, Pomp’s Tires of Marquette, mBank’s two Marquette locations, Auto Value in Marquette and GT Sales in Beaver Grove.
