Iron Rangers score 9 goals, but still swept in Wisconsin

MARQUETTE – A pair of losses at the Mosinee (Wisconsin) Papermakers last weekend has left the Marquette Iron Rangers hockey team with a 1-6 overall record.

The Iron Rangers dropped 11-4 and 11-5 decisions.

“Some of these teams, their best players have been together five, six, seven years on the ice and (Mosinee) is no exception,” Iron Rangers owner Bob Airaudi said. “But by the time we come back home in the second half of the season, we’ll be winning a lot of these games. We’re doing a lot of improving.”

In their first game on Friday, the Iron Rangers got goals from two goals from Dallas McLaughlin and one each from Joey Enright and Ethan Busch-Anderson.

Drawing assists for Marquette were two by Andy Evans and one apiece by McLaughlin and Chris Freeborn.

Mike Nidy (37) and Jason Lemire (19) combined for 56 saves in net for Marquette.

Parker Tomcyk notched three goals, while Alex Rancino and Max Culp added two each for Mosinee.

In Saturday’s game, the Iron Rangers were outscored 5-0 in the first period before McLaughlin and Rick Temple scored early in the second to cut the deficit to 5-2.

But markers by Enright and McLaughlin in the third period weren’t enough for the Iron Rangers.

Collecting helpers for Marquette were two each by Enright, Adam Diedrich and Cody Bordeau.

Lemire turned aside 44 shots on net.

Tom Lentz scored four goals – three in the opening period – for the Papermakers. Rancino added two markers.
