MSHS spikers fall in semis

HOUGHTON – The Marquette Senior High School girls volleyball team participated in the Houghton Invitational Saturday, going 6-2 in pool play before falling in the semifinals to Calumet.

During pool play, Marquette defeated Ishpeming (25-12, 25-18), West Iron County (25-18, 26-24) and Baraga (25-11, 25-17), but fell to Houghton (22-25, 24-26).

In the semifinals against Calumet, Marquette fell 13-15, 21-25.

Kayce Mullett led the Redettes with 19 kills and four blocks, while Kellsey Grange and Terese Ledy chipped in 13 and 12 kills respectively.

Haylee Bell had 28 digs and 11 aces for the Redettes with Erica Cousineau adding 34 assists to the Marquette attack.

“The team played very well throughout the day,” Marquette head coach Mike Morgan said. “They continue to play very solid team defense and control play with strong serving.”

The Redettes will host Gladstone at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
