Northern spikers beat Ohio team, now 2-0 in tourney

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University’s women’s volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19) victory Friday over Cedarville (Ohio) in the Wildcat Open tournament being held at Vandament Arena in Marquette.

“I’m very proud of the team, and especially our two seniors,” head coach Dominic Yoder said. “I think we did a good job tonight in all aspects of the game, and our serving really threw Cedarville out of formation.”

Northern also held a 8.5-4 edge in blocks.

Wildcats Lisa Studnicka and Autumn Monsma tied for game-high honors with 17 kills each.

Teammate Alex Berger led all players with 24 digs.

Going into the Wildcat Open’s final day today, NMU is tied with rival Michigan Tech for first with 2-0 records.

Fort Hays State and Upper Iowa are both 1-1, while Lake Superior State and Cedarville are each 0-2.
