Bjorne defends title

MARQUETTE – KC Bjorne successfully defended his club championship on the Greywalls course at the Marquette Golf Club, defeating 12-time champion Dennis Hruska in an 18-hole match on Monday afternoon. This was Bjorne’s fourth club championship.

In the semifinals held that morning, Bjorne defeated Chad Wester and Hruska upended Scott Koski.

They made it that far by winning quarterfinal 18-hole matches on Sunday, also at Greywalls.

In those matches, Bjorne knocked off Scott Erickson, Wester turned away Nathan Aho, Hruska beat out Austin Hammell and Koski felled Dan McCutcheon.

And each of those players had won first-round matches on Saturday following the previous weekend 36-hole stroke qualifying round for all but Bjorne, who had been automatically seeded as No. 1 into match play as the defending champ.

Other flights also crowned their champions as follows – 1st, Rick Rhoades; 2nd, Bob Luke; 3rd, Jon Kamps; 4th, Ben Sager; 5th, John Keating; and 6th, Curt Marder.
