Rochester competes in GAM

OWOSSO – Northern Michigan women’s golfer Avery Rochester recently competed at the 24th Women’s Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) Championship held at Owosso Country Club. Over the course of the two-day tournament Rochester was able to shoot a 144 (+2) finishing in a third place tie in the field of 76 golfers.

“It was a great tournament, we had some great weather and it was fun to compete against such good competition,” commented Rochester.

“I just stayed in the moment and was able to put together some good rounds. It was definitely a good experience and fun to compete against golfers from other schools in the state.

The Marquette native showed consistency during the entire tournament shooting a 72 (+1) in both rounds leading to the 144 total. Julie Guckian was able to win the championship with a two-day total of 139 (-3) with Jennifer Elsholz settling for runner-up accolades shooting a 141 (-1).

“We are excited and proud to have Avery joining the NMU women’s golf program in its inaugural year,” commented head golf coach Kyle Wittenbach. “It’s going to be great having her local influence on the rest of the team as well as her experience and skill level.”

Northern Michigan University women’s golf kicks off their inaugural season this year with their first competition Sept. 19-20 at the Ashland Invitational held at the Mohican Hills Golf Course in Jeromesville, Ohio.
