Dead River Derby bout Aug. 29

MARQUETTE – The Dead River Derby roller derby team of Marquette will host its final home bout of the year at Lakeview Arena on Saturday, Aug. 29.

Its travel team, the Rolling Riptide, will take on the Floral City Roller Girls of downstate Monroe at 6 p.m., followed by Dead River’s Superior Sirens taking on the Bath City Roller Girls from Macomb County in the Detroit suburbs.

Room at the Inn will be the charitable beneficiary from a portion of the ticket sales at this event, touted as fast-paced and hard-hitting entertainment. Concessions, including beer and wine, are available at the arena.

Doors open at 5 p.m. with tickets costing $8 in advance or $10 at the door and children 13 years old and younger admitted for free. Advance tickets are available from team members or at the website brownpapertickets.com.

The full-contact roller derby team is looking for skaters, event volunteers, referees and non-skating officials. Volunteers receive free admission to bouts and invitations to after-parties among other things.

The group will have recruitment information available, including several of its athletes, at Northern Michigan University’s Fall Fest to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Center Lawn on campus.
