Escanaba pulls away from Tri-City

ESCANABA – The Escanaba Polecats scored three times in the late innings Wednesday night, earning a 4-1 Wishigan League baseball victory over the Tri-City Northstars in Escanaba.

Tri-City tied the score on C.J. Lepisto’s single in the seventh inning of this game scheduled for nine innings.

Esky regained the lead in its half of the seventh when Tony Peacock scored while Austin Young was caught in a pickle between first and second base.

The Polecats (3-5) ended the scoring in the eighth on RBI singles by Tim Lueneburg and Dave Falish.

“This is a big win for us,” Esky manager Jon Bintner said. “This was a typical Tri-City-Escanaba game. The game lasted only two hours. The pitchers threw a lot of strikes and the hitters were putting the ball in play.”

Esky opened the scoring on a bases-loaded walk in the second. Bintner, who pitched the entire contest, struck out six, walked two and scattered four hits.

Tri-City’s Grant Johnson also went the distance and absorbed the loss. He fanned three, walked four and allowed six hits.
