Redmen eliminated on diamond

MARQUETTE – Falling prey to an early Traverse City Central surge, the Marquette Senior High School baseball team saw its season end Saturday with an 8-6 loss to visiting Trojans in MHSAA Division 1 district tournament play.

T.C. Central scored four runs in the first inning, three in the second and one in the third, then fought off an MSHS rally to take the win. The Redmen tallied two runs each in the first, third and fifth innings.

Riley Lynch and Garrett Finkbeiner led the Marquette (18-12) offense. Lynch hit a single, scored a run and knocked in another, while Finkbeiner plated two runs.

Brett Beauchamp took the mound loss. He went 2.2 innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and four walks while striking out three.

Hurler Matt Baker got the win for the Trojans. In four innings, he surrendered six runs, four hits and five walks while fanning nine.
