Munising’s Bailey Corcoran leads 6 Alger County players earning Skyline Central Conference girls basketball honors

MUNISING — A half-dozen players from Alger County earned honors when the Skyline Central Conference recently named its high school girls basketball awards.

Four of those honored were from Munising and two from Superior Central.

The Mustangs, which finished the season with a 16-6 record after reaching the MHSAA Division 4 district tournament finals, were led by sophomore Bailey Corcoran making the conference First Team.

Junior teammate Emerson Crisp was named to the Second Team, while sophomore Dayne Behning earned a berth on the league’s All-Defensive Team.

In addition, Munising senior Monique Brisson earned Honorable Mention.

Superior Central, which finished 12-8 after winning a Division 4 district game to reach the tournament semifinals, was led by senior Madison Begovac earning a place on the Second Team.

Sophomore teammate Sammie Johnson also earned Honorable Mention.

Junior Lauren Zawada of overall Skyline Central champion Bark River-Harris swept the top two special player awards, the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, while Broncos’ head coach Matt Richer was named Coach of the Year.

BR-H was named the Large School Division champion among varsity teams, along with the Best Overall Record.

Carney-Nadeau earned the Small School Division champion’s mantle for varsity squads.

In JV awards, BR-H and Forest Park shared the Large School Division title, while North Dickinson carted off the Small School Division crown.

In addition, Norway’s Hannah Burklund won the league’s Individual Sportsmanship Award, while Rapid River gained the Team Sportsmanship honor.

C-N’s Shea Linder earned the Free Throw Award.
