Northern Michigan University Wildcats take on Post University for Homecoming football game this afternoon

MARQUETTE — The Northern Michigan University football team looks to bounce back at 2 p.m. today when the Wildcats host Post University for homecoming.

LAST TIME OUT

The Wildcats traveled to Davenport University and lost to the Panthers 31-21. A late comeback attempt by the Wildcats failed as DU was able to ice the game away late.

THROUGH THE AIR

Drake Davis was 12 of 24 for 167 yards and two touchdowns through the air, and his brother Wyatt Davis was NMU’s leading receiver with three receptions for 99 yards and a TD. Running back Tyshon King also helped out through the air with a 7-yard touchdown reception from Davis.

MAKING AN IMPACT

King was the team’s leading rusher with 15 carries for 76 yards, an average of 5.1 yards per carry.

Defensively, Antonio Howard had a big day, leading the Wildcats in tackles with 15, including eight solo. Howard also had a quarterback sack and a forced fumble.

John McMullen also had a sack, adding six tackles and two tackles for loss.

WILDCATS TO WATCH

Drake Davis leads the GLIAC in completions and passing TDs. He is also second in the league in completion percentage, passing yards and passing yards per game. Tyshon King is second in the conference in rushing yards and rushing yards per game.

Justin Peake is second in the GLIAC in total tackles with 27.

NMU VS. POST

This is the first-ever matchup between the Wildcats and the Eagles, a school based in Waterbury, Connecticut, that joined the NCAA Division II in football last season.
