Westwood boys tennis team flies past Ishpeming, 6-2

ISHPEMING — Westwood won three out of four flights in both singles and doubles to record a 6-2 victory at Ishpeming in a high school boys tennis match played Tuesday afternoon.

The teams split the two matches that went three sets. Westwood No. 3 singles player Alex Adriano defeated Landen Kiviniemi 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, while at No. 2 doubles, the Hematites’ Logan Hurkmans and Ben Rubick fended off Gabe Tossava and Chase Prophet 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.

Ishpeming’s other win was by No. 4 singles player Levi Giroux over Tony Misale 6-4, 6-2.

Westwood picked up straight-sets victories from No. 1 singles player Bryce Markham and No. 2 Andrew Niemi, along with No. 1 doubles pairing of Ryan LaFountain and Garrett Mann, No. 3 doubles duo of Zakary Senske and Patrick Klumpp and No. 4 doubles tandem of Trevor Chantelois and Mason Hietikko.

Both schools will join Negaunee, Gwinn and Iron Mountain at the Mid-Peninsula Conference meet this morning, tentatively at Westwood High School.

Area teams are also preparing for the MHSAA Upper Peninsula Finals scheduled for next week. Division 1 is scheduled for Wednesday at Negaunee High School and Division 2 for next Thursday at Iron Mountain.
