Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team goes on road this weekend

MARQUETTE — The men’s soccer team at Northern Michigan University leaves Marquette for its first road game of the season in Grand Rapids against Davenport at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Wildcats opened with a 4-0 loss to Saginaw Valley State in the Superior Dome on Sunday as NMU’s Ryan Palmbaum had four shots and teammates Casey Miller and Kaffie Kurz had one apiece. Northern netminder Alex Weaver made six saves.

Palmbaum, now a sophomore, was GLIAC Freshman of the Year and All-GLIAC Second Team member in NMU’s most recent season in the fall of 2019. Teammate Francisco Espinoza was also a Second Team honoree that fall, while Kurz was All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.

The Wildcats return 13 players from the 2019 team that made the GLIAC Tournament for the third straight year, quite an achievement for a program that was in its fourth year.

Davenport is 4-1-1 all-time against NMU, including a pair of wins in 2019 — 1-0 and 2-1.
