Munising’s Ethan Lakosky to play football at Finlandia
MUNISING — All-Upper Peninsula tight end Ethan Lakosky of Munising High School has committed to attend and play football at Finlandia University, the Hancock institution announced Tuesday.
Finlandia also said Lakosky plans to major in criminal justice.
Lakosky, listed at 6-foot-2 and 222 pounds last fall, was a key component in the Mustangs’ turning around a winless 11-player campaign in 2019 to finishing above .500 in their inaugural year in eight-player last fall.
He caught 24 passes for 332 yards and six touchdowns to be named to the Eight-Player First Team in December voting by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.
Lakosky was also his team MVP and has been named a participant for this summer’s U.P. All-Star Game.
“Ethan is tough, hard-nosed, U.P. football player who will bring that toughness to our program at Finlandia,” said David Sartin, the Lions’ assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. “He is a game-changing tight end who can stretch the field vertically and set the edge in the run game.”
His high school coach, Matt Mattson agreed.
“Ethan has fantastic hands,” Mattson said. “If he was on a different team that threw the ball more, his numbers would’ve been outstanding receiving-wise. He did a great job blocking for us at the tight end position, but also (had) a touchdown a game.
“Just a weapon. If you were gonna play Munising, you knew you had to worry about where he was at…. He’s a fantastic player and has the skills and the size and the ability to play at the next level.”
