MARQUETTE — Led by women’s player Makaylee Kuhn, three Northern Michigan University basketball players earned All-GLIAC honors on Saturday as the conference named its top men’s and women’s players.

Kuhn, a 5-foot-11 sophomore guard from Hilbert, Wisconsin, was named to the All-GLIAC First Team after ranking second in the league in scoring this season. She averaged 19.4 points per game, the only Wildcat averaging in double figures, while she was sixth in GLIAC rebounding with 6.5 per game.

She made 48.3 percent on field goals, seventh in the league, including 32.3 percent on 3-pointers, and sank 81.4 percent of her free throws.

She scored a career-high 39 points this winter in a game against Purdue Northwest, which is tied for fifth highest in NCAA Division II nationally. She also made 16 free throws that game, the second best in D-2 this season.

The NMU women finished 10-9, including a league mark of 10-8.

Two juniors on the men’s team each were named to the All-GLIAC Second Team after the Wildcats finished their season at 8-8.

Due to coronavirus testing protocols, the team was unable to play its final weekend of the regular season, nor was able to participate in the postseason tournament, when it likely would’ve played a first-round game at home.

Max Bjorklund led NMU in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field, including 38.2 percent on 3-pointers, and 79.4 percent on free throws.

The 6-2, 185-pound junior guard from Orono, Maine, played in 13 games, starting all of them, and also averaged 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Dolapo Olayinka was second in scoring for Northern at 14.0 ppg, shooting 47.5 percent from the field, while he also averaged a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game, nearly three more than any other Wildcat.
