Republic-Michigamme girls basketball team takes out speedy Bessemer, 50-34

REPUBLIC — The Republic-Michigamme girls basketball team used a big game from Allie Radcliffe to earn a 50-34 win over Bessemer on Monday night.

Radcliffe led the Hawks with 24 points, while teammate Leah McCracken chipped in with 12.

R-M led 17-6 after one quarter and 26-18 at the half before outscoring the Speedgirls 15-11 in the third quarter to help nail down the victory.

“It was a good game,” Hawks head coach April Radcliffe said. “A lot of teamwork on offense and a good effort on defense.”

Manistique 44, Munising 21

At Munising, Brooke St. John lifted Manistique by scoring 12 points as the Emeralds broke the game open in the middle two quarters.

Leading just 9-8 after one quarter, Manistique built leads of 23-12 at halftime and 38-17 after three quarters.

Kayla Muth added eight points for the Emeralds, while Munising (0-3) was paced by Jenna Mattson with seven.

“Our girls played hard, but we don’t have much size,” Mustangs head coach Matt Mattson said. “Manistique outrebounded us quite badly, and when we had open shots we were unable to hit them and couldn’t get any second-chance opportunities.”

Munising shot just 15 percent from the field (9 of 59) while the Emeralds were a cool 31 percent there (19 of 61). Neither team made a 3-pointer.

Manistique also won the JV game 40-26.
